‘Your parcel’s in the bin’ note from postman
A MAN who works in IT security was stunned to return home to find a "Sorry you were out" note from the postman, saying a parcel had been left in his bin.
Mark Goddard opened the bin, used for his garden waste and discovered the package lay beneath a mountain of wet and smelly garden rubbish deposited by the gardener the same day.
Mr Goddard, 41, said the package contained two soggy batteries and a charger for his digital camera, ordered the week before.
"I read the message and laughed out loud in disbelief," he said.
Mr Goddard of Sylvan Close, St Leonards, said he had phoned Royal Mail to complain and a representative had apologised.
The items, worth £41.92, have dried out.
"It could have been anything, someone's photos or anything at all," he added. "You never know what's in the parcels. It could be credit card details or anything like that."
He said he was concerned that items which could help a thief commit identity fraud could be left outside a person's home.
A Royal Mail spokesman said it was normal policy to leave a parcel slip but not the parcel.
"A card should have been left confirming that we had attempted to deliver the item and offering a number of options including redelivery."
"The postmen and women at Ringwood delivery office will be reminded of the correct procedures to follow when delivering items of this nature.
"I would like to apologise to Mr Goddard for the problem he suffered with the delivery," she added.

I hate it when the postman/delivery driver leaves your parcel with a neighbour you don't speak to because they are WEIRD!

Lucky man getting HIS post delivered to HIS address. We get someone else's post at least once a week and only this morning our neighbour brough us post that had been put through her door.
If postal delivery persons had to take a reading test, I suggest some of them would be out of a job.

If the government found a way to tax brains I reckon all postmen would be in for a refund.

I've experienced similar idiocy from parcels-delivery people on three occasions in the past six months. Does this warrant a special supplement from the Echo? Stop the presses!

Well I would give the postman some credit for at least trying to be helpful. I have had items left in my bin - but the recycling bin NOT the rubbish bin. I didn't have problem with that.
In Poole, if one has to collect packages from the LDO there is no public parking and one even has to pay to park in the road outside! Any delivery is better than effectively having to pay an excess.
Bournemouth does have the benefit of a newish LDO with public parking spaces even though people still seem to use the pavement in Wellington road...
Deliveries by White Van Man - Now that's another story!

I also had a parcel left in my recycle bin, only to come home and find the bin men had emptied it earlier in the day, they had recycled my unopened, undelivered and unsigned for parcel, still, I did have a nice card saying where it HAD been.

Shame Postmen are not trained to put all junk mail straight into the nearest bin rather than through our letter boxes.

We in Broadstone (at least in BH18 8HE) are fortunate to have postmen who use their brains and common sense. I for one am glad of them - they do their job well!
