Bag a Bra fills charity cups

BOSSES at Castlepoint are appealing to shoppers to help them raise a massive £250,000 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The Bournemouth shopping park has chosen the air ambulance as their charity of the year and is intending to reach their fundraising target with a series of events and recycling schemes.

A clothing recycling bank at Castlepoint is already raising more than £300 per month for the Daily Echo-backed charity and further banks will be placed around the centre soon.

And shoppers are being asked to sort through their underwear drawer and donate their unwanted bras during Bag A Bra Week, which will run from Saturday, June 14 to Saturday, June 21.

All donated bras will be strung up on a washing line that will stretch from TK Maxx to Argos, via Marks and Spencer.

Castlepoint general manager Peter Matthews said: "We wanted to be able to make a difference and create a partnership that would not only make money for the charity but also raise their awareness in the area.

"Many of us thought that the air ambulance was funded from central government via the NHS but it isn't. We will have a lot of fun in the next year stretching to reach our goal."

Nicola Howkins, director of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected by Castlepoint as their charity of the year.

"To be able to showcase the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at such a prime location, visited by thousands, is truly amazing.

"Their target goal makes Castlepoint the largest fundraising initiative the charity has ever been involved with - we thank them for their support."

Everyone should support this wonderful initiative. We never think we will need the Air Ambulance, but with all the accidents and hold ups we read about on this site we should remember - it could be any one of us who needs it next!
Please support this cause in any way possible - they accept money too if you don't have a bra to give!

Best of luck to this worthy cause.
