Bond faces battle to keep Forde
STAR STOPPER: David Forde
STAR STOPPER: David Forde

CHERRIES boss Kevin Bond has confirmed his interest in signing goalkeeper David Forde but admits he could be facing a losing battle.

The Cardiff City stopper played a starring role during Cherries' end-of-season revival after arriving at Dean Court on an emergency loan basis in March.

Irishman Forde put himself in the shop window by turning in a series of excellent displays as Cherries finished the season on a seven-match unbeaten run.

And although Bond is keen to keep him, Forde, who is out of contract at Ninian Park, has already attracted interest from several other clubs.

Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen are reportedly on his trail, while Millwall have also been linked with the 28-year-old.

Forde's star turn for Cherries came against the Lions last month when he pulled off a superb penalty save from Neil Harris in a 2-0 win for Bond's charges.

Bond told the Daily Echo: "I would love to bring David back here but, whether it will happen, I don't know. I'm not sure that we are in a position to meet his demands never mind anything else.

"I think the situation the club finds itself in would stop me clinching a deal with anybody at this moment in time. But I've spoken to David and he knows of our interest."

Unless Bond can bolster his resources, youth team graduate Ryan Pryce could start pre-season as the club's only goalkeeper.

First-choice Neil Moss is unlikely to be fit due to a wrist injury, while Gareth Stewart was released earlier this month.

Meanwhile, chairman Jeff Mostyn is continuing preliminary discussions with Cherries' out of contract players.

Bond has already stated that he is "very keen" to re-sign Darren Anderton, Marvin Bartley, Lee Bradbury, Shaun Cooper, Ryan Garry, Josh Gowling, Danny Hollands and Brett Pitman.

With all due respect, if you don't offer Badbuy a contract you may well be able to offer Forde improved terms. What's the point of signing a high wage earner who can only muster about 4 goals a season despite playing at the highest level.

It's Fletcher all over again.

Bradbury played brilliantly at the end of last season - surely he is worth keeping ? A good squad player ?

Its a known fact you don't score many goals from Right Back!!!!!!!!

Bond appears to be right that we may not be in a position legally to sign anyone at the moment ( administration)

I am concerned that if it is correct that Mostyn is in PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS with our players over new contracts that it may break Football League rules ?

Jeff you are not our Chairman are you ? You received your leaving present on the pitch , your family asked you to leave , you have made two failed bids , you got us relegated .

And now we wait and wait why you mess up again. You know the state of the club so why are we waiting ? Please if you have no cash then walk and lets see who comes in. If know one appears then ok you are better than nothing , just !

You have told us all in your recent statement
" THERE MAY WELL BE MORE QUALIFIED CHAIRMEN OUT THERE AND THERE ARE CERTAINLY PEOPLE WAITING IN THE WINGS WITH CONSIDERABLY MORE WEALTH THAN ME "

Yes you may have the passion Jeff but you need cash , real money and lots of it otherwise we will go down and down , we have NO assets.

Your statement tells us all the players staff and fans that you know that there is someone waiting in the wings with loads of money, well thats great go and get them and step asside. Forget about losing your money because you will lose more and more. The great people in business know when to walk away. Think of others be brave and swallow your pride. ( sorry to go on again but i fear for our club )

Anyone think that the decision regards whether its a -15 start next year will influence some of our more quality players staying for next year? The last time we went down and the squad stayed together it was a bit different.

bet jeffs happy with that statement. if he is the only one perhaps you will then drop your standard tirade next season.
as for the players it makes sense to talk to the players now and get some agreement before they all sign else where

I agree, Neil Moss has played 168 (I think) games for Bournemouth and not scored a single goal!

Joking aside, Forde would be a quality signing. I had huge doubts when he was brought in to replace Pryce but he has proven himself to be a real force.

Ross, sorry if you think its a tirade but i do not mean it to be. If Mostyn walked away and the wealthy person / persons waiting in the wings that Jeff talks about do not come forward and we are left with M & S and of course i would support them but remember Jeff has failed three times and he spoke of them in the wings not me so why not ask them to step forward ?

I believe Jeff and Steve are hanging on for a return on their money , unlike others who have lost theirs and that is the stumbling block.

So therefore the players , staff and of course us the fans are in limbo whilst they play games. They will not admit defeat and walk away or wipe off their so called funding and ask others in the wings to step in with ALL their wealth ( jeffs words) and save us.

We do need players and quick but M & S are not in a position to decide who they are. Certainly not the players fault or the Manager i put the blame on the shoulders of our EX Chairman and EX Vice chairman for dragging their feet.

no apology needed as everyone is entitled to their opinion. admin has been going on for so long i think we all have had enough. still think its wise for bondy to talk to the players to get some agreements reached for when their contracts run out if only in priciple

Small squad with 3 permanent goalkeepers ?

Time to resign Browning !!

Wasn't Bradbury one of the finds of the season, he was brilliant at right back and must be worth keeping, and like others said where do you think the goals will come form at right back, and if we replace him with forde I can't see any goals coming there either, it must be something in the water in Nz that's doing it lol.

Some short memories here... Bradbury was very average in attack and only filled in at right back.
Sure it was the best he'd played all season but I'd rather have a real full back that overlaps and attacks as well as defending.
Well done to him for stepping in but that's not a reason to re-sign him.

Forde's start was a bit shakey but he became probably the best keeper we've had at the club in recent years. I'd like to see Ryan Pryce get more games cos he showed real promise. But I'd welcome Forde back with open arms.

AFCBlost in Brum? i'm not the only "expat" up here then! BTW I didn't quite slit my wrists whe Blues & Cherries went down...At least they both went down fighting!

If we can't afford to sign Forde, was deciding to release Stewart a bit premature?
Posted by: Noel, Bournemouth on 4:52pm Fri 16 May 08
It seems to me that the situation with the playing staff all hangs on resolving the ownership situation.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Jeff needs time to do 'due dilligence' after all he became chairman over 12 months ago when he loaned the club £750k so he should know the situation.

My concern, and other have said the same, is that this delay is a cover for not having the money. .

I think Jeff needs to show some leadership and there are three leadership options:-
a) lead
b) follow
c) keep the heck out of the way

If he can not put up the cash now to buy the club then option c might be the best option to take and let the others with more wealth than him do the deal.

That in my opinion is very unfair I think Bradbury was one of our better players towards the end of the Season and as a Defender does it matter if he doesnt score many Goals

Much as I have critisesed him I recognise that he is a very shrewd Man and I think he is buying a bit of time and has something uo his sleeve. Something has to happen next week

I think all he has up his sleeve is his fecking arm attached to his torso and an ego the size of a bus ?

It's getting really Da* frustrating , Mostyn just like Nero, playing his fiddle as DC burns and crashes!

So we have another summer of non stories from the echo sports web watchers. Maybe we can have a Perrett feature praising O Driscoll for reaching the play off final... maybe not eh, doubt he would even answer a phone call him? We can look forward to weeks of players saying they would love to stay at the club, and if things are really slow another Gowling story (seems he would do an interview about his favorite socks). Pathetic journalism as always!

To be honest Bri I've only been in Brum about 6 weeks, hence I'm mostly 'lost'.
But it's been great for getting to some of the away games, of course Walsall... oh, and getting back from Carlisle in just three hours was a small relief after a terrible day.
As for Birmingham City, how can a club with some of the richest people in the UK - Sullivan, Gold & Brady - let the club get relegated?
Us AFCB fans think that if some hero with cash to spare came in to save us everything would be alright, evidence from the second city proves you can often just get a new set of problems.
That said if I win the EuroBillions I promise you all I'll buy the club, clear the boardroom staff, bring back names like 'The Brighton Beach End', 'The South End' and 'The New Stand' (even if they're geographically incorrect)... hell, I might even increase the squad to 15 players!
