Memories of Alfie save lives
EMOTIONAL: Charlie Parsons plays in front of the ambulance named after his twin brother Alfie
EMOTIONAL: Charlie Parsons plays in front of the ambulance named after his twin brother Alfie

AN AMBULANCE named after a little boy who died aged 13 months has made a poignant visit to his parents.

The £125,000 specialist children's ambulance, with the numberplate X999 ALF in memory of Alfie Parsons, visited parents Lorraine and Andy at their home at Evelyn Road, Bournemouth.

The visit, on what would have been Alfie's fourth birthday on Wednesday, was attended by family, friends and the surgeon and paediatrician involved in Alfie's treatment.

Little Alfie - who has a surviving twin brother, Charlie - died after heart and lung complications, prompting his parents to begin fundraising in his name.

The couple raised £55,000 towards the cost of the ambulance and now hope to raise a further £11,000 for a special monitor for the vehicle through a golf day and dinner dance on June 13 and 14 at Dudsbury Golf Club, Ferndown.

They are also appealing for individuals or companies to donate prizes and for people to form golf teams to take part.

Lorraine said: "When Alfie died we got involved with the hospital and wanted to do charity work.

"They approached us about the numberplate, which we thought was fantastic.

"People always ask about it and they explain the story about Alfie.

"It was a very emotional day on what would have been his birthday. It helps to keep his memory alive."

For information on the golf day call 07852 921191.

Children as creations of love have the ability to show humanities face, as one in which the creator meant. With charity and grace this young boys death now may bring life to others. I hope the parents will find peace and solice in the work they and others are striving so hard to accomplish. The community in which life is so valued is a blessed community indeed.

I knew Alfie for all of his short life. He was a happy child who brought so much joy to all who knew him. I am now involved with the fund raising for Alfie's ambulance. The ambulance went into operation on Thursday and saved the life of a very sick child who was rushed to Great Ormond St Hospital. If any individuals or companies would like to donate something towards the raffle or auction this would be gratefully appreciated. We never know when one of our children or grandchildren may require the use of Alfie's ambulance. If you feel you can help please contact me on 07912418151 Thank you
