'BIGGEST FIRE IN YEARS' UNDER CONTROL
ROADS have reopened after a heath fire devastated part of Studland penninsula today.
The fire destroyed around four hectares (40,000 square metres) of the nature reserve, which teems with wildlife.
Sandbanks Ferry and Ferry Road were closed for hours then reopened this evening.
At its height 120 firemen were battling the fire.
Crews were called out at 1.49pm and had the fire contained by 3.06pm.
Phil Burridge, Swanage station mananger, said: "It's the biggest fire we've seen in the area for many years.
"It could have gone for miles and been a lot worse but the crews put in a lot of work."
A Dorset Fire service spokesman said: "The exact cause is unknown but it is not believed to be suspicious."
No-one was reported injured.

We've all seen a fire before! I think the story was just to inform locals of the event. Maybe there'll be pictures tomorrow - we'll just have to wait and see.
