SEX ATTACK IN WOODS ORDEAL
 |
| CRIME SCENE: Police investigate woodland at Stour Valley nature reserve |
DETECTIVES are appealing for help after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted and injured in an unprovoked attack.
An 18-year-old Bournemouth woman was sexually assaulted by a man as she walked near the River Stour, not far from Muscliffe Lane.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or the man responsible to contact them immediately.
Yesterday police cordoned off a secluded wooded area of Stour Valley Nature Reserve, close to the River Stour, while detectives and scenes of crime officers carried out their investigations.
The incident happened at around 10.30pm on Monday.
Detective Inspector Mark Samuel, of Bournemouth CID, said: "The victim wasn't seriously injured in the attack and specially trained officers are now making enquiries so that we can find out exactly what happened.
"Roads in the immediate area and an area near the river have been cordoned off while forensic officers carry out an examination.
"The man we're looking for is white and about five feet seven inches tall, aged in his 30s and of large or muscular build with very short hair or possibly a shaved head.
"He was wearing a plain, long-sleeved, round neck jumper.
"We'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed an assault, or any suspicious activity in that area on Monday evening.
"I'd urge anyone else who has any other information about the incident, or about the man responsible, to call the police immediately."
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 222222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
