Witness plea after van driver tries to snatch youth
Detectives are appealing for help to trace a man who tried to abduct a 14-year-old Bournemouth boy as he walked to school.
The 14-year-old was on Littledown Drive when he was approached by a white van near the junction with Harewood Avenue at about 7.30am on Wednesday May 14.
Details of the attempted abduction have only just been released by Dorset Police.
The van pulled over on the wrong side of the road and a man leaned out of the driver's window before trying to grab the teenager's shirt collar.
His shocked victim ran to school where he alerted members of staff who contacted the police.
DC Vicky Worsdale said: "The van is described as small, possibly an Austin Maestro with white paint peeling from the bonnet and rust on the door trims. It looked like a works van and was quite noisy, possibly a diesel.
"It had solid panels at the sides and the doors opened at the back. The number plate at the front was square, rather than oblong, and had either the number two or nine in it."
She added: "We believe there was only one man inside the van. He was white, about 50 years old, with a skinny build and grey moustache. He was wearing a short-sleeved blue striped shirt.
"We don't know what his intentions were but are very concerned."
She appealed to anyone who recognises the suspicious vehicle to contact Dorset Police, adding: "I'd urge anyone who saw this van in the Littledown Drive area to get in touch."
